The choker trend has continued to gain momentum through 2016, and although there appears to be many adopters, I can’t help but feel that I don’t fall into the right demographic to pull off the all too tight, neck-wrinkle-and-double-chin-highlighting accessory. (It’s a tough one to pull off as a shorty too as we don’t typically have a lot of length between our ears and shoulders.) At what point do you put your foot down and live up to saying that you’d never dress like you did in high school again?? That’s the last time I remember wearing this necklace length. And if a trend that was popular in high school has returned, it likely means you can’t pull it off in the same way. My solution? Wear a scarf.
Not only does a scarf hide the aforementioned unfortunate ageing of your skin, it’s a perfect way to transition to fall without making a large investment in your wardrobe. Look for a square scarf of any fabric or print in your closet, your mother’s closet or your local thrift shop. This is, after all, an opportunity for you to showcase your personal style. Fold in half lengthwise to make a triangle, roll to the width of your choice and not to tie. I especially like to wear a square silk scarf while traveling no matter the season, as it helps keep me cozy between changing temperatures in trains, cars and automobiles. Not sure where to start? Try one in a monochromatic colour scheme; you can buy from my top picks below!
