Talk about a first impression. When I met Kim Newport-Mimran, it was after my first Women of Influence event and she had taken the time to have a sincere conversation with every person who lined up to meet her after speaking about her journey as an designer entrepreneur. She was humble, patient and attentive; qualities I imagine you don’t see in the fashion industry very often. Surprised by her generosity, I kicked myself for not having thought of more insightful questions to ask but I did leave with an offer to share Klas squared’s website with a potential opportunity to sell in her stores - who does that?? A good hearted Canadian, that’s who.
If at this point you aren’t sure who I’m talking about, Kim Newport-Mimran is the lead designer and founder of 15-year-old global womenswear label, Pink Tartan. A brand which
embodies what Canada stands for: equality, authenticity and integrity.
Designed to combine elegance and practicality, her collections feature the “tech pant” giving working women the perfect pant to take from the breakfast table, to work, to an evening out. She takes pride in creating well constructed clothes that are made to stand the test of time. As Kim said,
“clothing is the modern day armour to battle the world”.
I couldn’t agree more.
With a focus on femininity and functionality, it is easy to fall in love with the pieces Kim has created from the colours and fabrics that inspired her. Between blazers and brocades, satin and stoles, it is evident that she understands how to bring textiles to life and empower women to look and feel their best. But she’ll be the first to tell you that it takes hard work and perseverance to succeed in the fashion industry, and to remember
“you can have it all but not at the same time”.
Although, after seeing her line, you may realize that you do in fact, want it all! Shop my top Pink Tartan picks and share this post with those looking for something new, classic and Canadian to add to their wardrobe:
