I had my mind made up. We were headed to Costa Rica on vacation and after spending the previous months in a fashion styling course, I figured it was time to up my game. A new pair of sunglasses were the obvious choice if I were going to invest in something that would make a statement and last a lifetime. I knew from the moment I tried them on that my life, and my style, were changed forever. I had been eyeing a pair of round-frame-specs I’d seen on celebrities and stylists but was unsure if I could pull them off… how much attention did I want to attract to myself, really? They were a bold move and I had reservations but deep down I knew I had to have them - sure enough, they were a game changer and the first step in finding my personal style.
We are all unique, one of a kind; quite literally there is no one else on the planet the same as you or me. So why not use fashion as a means to express that individuality? In follow up to my blog about branding, I wanted to share with you one element of my journey: finding my personal style. Fashion is an opportunity to show who you are: your personality, your mood and your energy. It is a natural extension of your being and when you are in tune with yourself, you are at your best. Confidence comes naturally and taking on the day feels effortless. Imagine if you didn’t have to think about what to wear in the morning, what to pack for vacation, or what to wear out to that important celebratory dinner or networking event? Finding your personal style can help you with all of the above.
Although I have built credibility around fashion and styling, it didn’t come without dedication, hard work and a lot of trial and error. But the biggest ‘aha’ moment came when I finally realized that my style and my dress was for one person only: me. This meant ignoring the trends and embracing the pieces that I found inspiring, that I felt good wearing and that made me feel like I could take on the world. Fashion is so personal; there is no one-size, look or outfit that fits all. It is important that you understand yourself on an intimate level in order to express yourself from the inside out. And as you set out on this adventure of self-realization, use the tips below to uncover your true, personal style.
